Formal learning is turning over a new leaf with the introduction of online education. Scholars can now actively participate in a quality education, originally available only from a college, university, or trade school, from the privacy of their own home. The advantages of an online education are numerous and have been experienced by millions worldwide.

Students can participate in a distance learning class from anywhere and at any time of day. This makes it easier for parents and those with inflexible work schedules to further their education. As long as students have Internet access, they can view the course material at any time day or night. The material remains on the Web site until the class is completed, allowing students to refer to it more than once.

Online education is able to encompass several different learning styles as it offers written, auditory, and visual elements. Students must submit tests and homework on the Web site and can take part discussion forums that replace traditional classroom discussions. This allows students to interact with one another while they become familiarized with the Internet and other new technologies. Some sites have chat rooms available, allowing for a more personal connection between peers.

A major advantage to online learning is that instructors are available from across the globe. All different kinds of knowledge and experiences can be contributed from these professors to their students? learning experience. Compared with office hours at a college or university, professors are much easier to get in touch with in an online experience. With less confrontation, students sometimes find it easier to communicate with instructors and peers and are able to absorb information more comfortably.

Electronic courses tend to use a lot of material that would not be nearly as available in a traditional classroom setting. Materials can include e-books, web articles, and online school library articles, which can be obtained with a click of a button, rather than a trek across campus. Newsgroups and chat rooms are available for communication during group assignments, making it easier to work around personal schedules.

Convenience, as well as flexibility and accessibility, is one of the major advantages of an online education. Students many times feel less intimidated by the anonymity of the online setting and become more active participants. Anyone with a hectic schedule or time consuming responsibilities wishing to further their education can certainly benefit from an online education.

Working in court reporting careers offers the individual an opportunity to have a fun, exciting and rewarding position. When doing this type of work, very seldom are two days ever the same and there are always a high demand for those seeking these positions.

A court report has an important position and all work must be very precise as often times a transcript is referred back to for information regarding a court proceeding. Those in this field must be quick with shorthand, be proficient in the equipment used and be precise.

It takes approximately two years to complete the education required for a court reporting position, after which time the individual will be awarded a certificate. Following or during class time there will be a need for an internship in order to gain experience and perfect the shorthand techniques required.

The classes will teach the person how to effectively learn to read and type shorthand as well as how to use the required machines for the job. There are basically two types of machines used for recording. A stenotype machine is what most people associate a reporter with, this machine requires the reporter to type in all words or gestures that take place during the proceedings. The average words typed is 250 per minute which is why practice is important.

The second option is a steno mask machine which allows the reporter to verbally state all words and gestures into a voice recorder. The recorder also has a mask which prevents the others present to hear what the reporter is saying into the recorder. When this equipment is used, following the daily proceedings all recordings are transferred into transcription from.

While attending classes, the individual will be required to learn terminology in both legal and medical forms. This will make the process of transcriptions easier and make more sense. The practice of learning the terminology and the equipment is an important part of the process as well as the shorthand which requires a minimum of 225 words per minute. In order to be efficient in this type of work the individual has to be detail oriented and be extremely precise in their work.

Being trained in court reporting careers also may involve doing research on previous transcripts and other duties as well. Those qualified will be able to expand the career in several different options such as doing freelance work or a medical transcriber. There are numerous opportunities in this field, the pay is excellent and there is always a demand for efficient transcribers.

Are you a student trying to decide what to do when you finish high school? Or maybe you have recently lost your job and are thinking about a new career. Court reporting might be worth considering as court reporter salaries continue to increase.

Being a court reporter involves taking words spoken and transcribing them into written words. In court settings, they are usually at the front of the courtroom, and you can see them rapidly typing everything spoken. Their job is vital for the court records to be accurate.

Court reporters have two means of recording the spoken words. They may do steno typing or voice writing. When steno typing is used, a particular machine is used that has different symbols for sounds and words. With voice writing, the recorder speaks into a special mask and records the testimony. The mask is sound proof, so that no one else can hear her words. Both can either be transcribed later, or if properly equipped, can be transcribed in real time.

Stringent training is necessary to become a certified court reporter. Different levels and certifications are available. The more certifications received, the better qualified you will before more jobs with higher pay. Usually, training takes around two and a half years at least. There is a level of training available at around six months, but it will limit both your job opportunities and pay. Learning continues even after certification. Most recorders have to take a certain number of continuing education classes in order to remain certified.

Although we commonly think of court reporters working only in a courtroom setting, this is not always the case. Some work for a fixed salary while others prefer to work on a freelance basis. Freelancers do things like take statements for lawyers, take minutes of meeting, and record important functions at various conventions. A very rapidly growing job for court reporters is doing closed captioning for television. While some prefer to work for the government on a salary with benefits, others prefer freelancing. Some choose to do a little of both.

An entry level court reporter can usually expect to make between 40,000 to 50,000 dollars per year. A more experienced reporter might make between 75,000 to 90,000 a year. Some even go well above the 100,000 dollar mark. Of course, not everyone can expect to make this much. Where you live, and the type of recording you do can make a big difference on salary. No matter what your salary level, there are some skills that all in this profession need. Speed and precision in recording is a must. You must have extremely good listening ability. Good computer knowledge and the ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner are also critical. Unless you are working on salary for 8-9 hours per day, you will also need to have flexible working hours and days.

Although a difficult job, court reporting is a very important occupation. With more and more reporters needed each year, court reporter salaries will continue to grow with the demand.

Paralegal careers range anywhere from law firms, government offices, corporations and banks. Paralegals (or legal assistants) assist in resolving cases by interviewing clientele and witnesses; investigating and researching; file management and documentation; deposition notices; subpoenas; and to help assist in meetings, mediation, trials, hearings and so forth.

Legal counsel, determination of fees, and presenting of cases are not performed by a paralegal. The primary role of a paralegal is to maintain filing systems and records that pertain to a case, perform necessary research that lawyers will later use, assist in meetings or interviews, and to obtain affidavits. They may also help in matters of preparation that relate to case motions for pleadings or arguments.

Growth within the paralegal field is projected to increase faster than most average careers due to baby boomers bringing on more potential work, much like that of the medical field. Due to this increase, more work from paralegals is said to be needed. Clients also tend to prefer the less expensive work on a case done by paralegals (where eligible), rather than that of more attorneys due to being significantly more expensive.

Salaries can vary and depend on the paralegals experience, length of time within the field, environments worked in, and education. Location may also be a deciding factor, since smaller or more rural areas may have less demand than that of a more populated location.

Median earnings for paralegal work can vary–again, dependent on location, experience, type of work that will be done and education. Median earnings are approximately in the $49,000 range, with the highest averaging at $60,000 per year. For the less experienced workers, or those in rural areas, lower pay can often be between $20,000 to $40,000. Specialized skills in the field may see toward higher pay that is well into the six figures, as well as skills in management.

Paralegals often do not possess any formal training, short of a vocational-based coursework that one might opt to study. However, it is generally desired that an associate’s or bachelor’s degree is obtained, or at least a paralegal certificate. Those who focus their studies on paralegal coursework often have the most luck in finding positions.

When it comes to any paralegal careers, candidates are generally expected to have a strong understanding of legal terminology, state and federal laws, and also basic rules of legal procedures. They often excel when it comes to communication and organizational skills, as well as in research, grammar, and overall skills in writing.

Joining the field of paralegal careers can prove to be an exciting and rewarding and often lucrative experience for those who have the passion for it. The overall outlook of the field is said to increase more than that of the average job due to cost-cutting methods that companies are now taking of hiring paralegals to take on many of the duties that’s usually done by attorneys at a more expensive rate.

With a wider variety of duties being placed upon paralegals, also referred to as legal assistants, businesses are now also finding appeal in having paralegal services to minimize costs, creating more demand as time goes on. As the population increases and the baby boomers reach a new stage in life, so too grows the future need for legal services. However, due to the appeal of the career, there will still remain a significant amount of competition amongst paralegals, which is likely to increase along with the demand of legal services and positions. The impact of the economy may also have a slight impact in some ways.

The Workplace

The highest-ranked establishment for paralegal jobs are most often within that of private law firms, although corporations are also starting to increasingly take on more paralegals in order to cut down costs of legal work needed. While work within smaller firms may have a wide variety of general duties that paralegals will perform, larger firms may have positions that are specified to a particular area, which might also mean a slightly higher amount of pay depending on the company, the experience, and the education of the paralegal.

The areas of laws that paralegals focus on can differ, most times depending on the type of business they are working under. These positions may be anything from bankruptcy to real estate, family law, labor law, criminal, personal injury, corporate law, among many others. Whether or not a paralegal oversees more than one can often vary on the size of the company and the amount of paralegal resources available.

Licensing and Training

The majority of potential workers entering paralegal careers receive some form of educational training or certification to get into the field; however, some may gain experience with on the job training when entering a position that’s entry-level. Formal training can be obtained by means of intensive certification courses, an associate’s degree or that of a bachelor’s. While education is not regulated by all states, or even by all companies, some states do require that some accredited education is learned. Overall, training experience may increase chances of finding work and possibly raise pay rates.

The concentration exhibited on the face of the court reporter is proof of his or her dedication to the task at hand. He uses a small desk located just in front of the judge’s bench. He uses a special machine, not a regular typist keyboard, to record all words spoken during a trial. He is well educated, knowledgeable and he and others like him deserve the high court reporter salaries they are earning.

She, and others like her are well educated, dedicated and provide meticulous attention to every detail of the court proceedings. Typically, a court reporter in the USA earns slightly fewer than fifty thousand dollars a year. This is an average that takes geographical location, industry and size of the company owned by her employer.

Working as an official government employee is not the only job opportunity for an educated and licensed court reporter. There are openings in lawyer’s offices, schools and even television closed-captioning creation.

How can she type that fast, how does someone qualify to become a courtroom reporter in the first place? First of all, she is not using a regular keyboard to type record the dialogue. Secondly, her education took two and a half years. Then after graduating from the program, she passed a state board exam before being licensed as an official courtroom reporter.

The machine used to record testimony is called a steno machine. Unlike the keyboard, it has only twenty-two keys. Learning to use it is like learning a new language. At peak skill she can record 225 words per minute. Each sentence and each nuance of meaning must be clearly interpreted. Medical, legal, and scientific terms must be defined accurately. A court reporter signs a statement as to veracity of the report.

According to a report from CNN/Money, a freelancing court reporter with superior skills, experience and dedication can earn $100,000 per year. This is higher than the salary earned working for the government or other employer. It must be taken into consideration that the freelancer pays his own benefits. Health insurance, taxes and insurances take a large portion from the $100,000. If he depends on an agency to refer him for work, that is another expense.

The court systems on federal and state levels require the continuous services of the official court reporter. Trials and hearings must be carefully reported. A job such as this has regular hours, a good salary and benefits worth a great deal. The freelancer, conversely, is self-employed, and pays his own taxes and saves his own retirement fund and has no paid vacations. He may work with a lawyer to take depositions and record other meetings.

It may be that you are looking for an entry way into the legal world, or simply just want to become a career paralegal, you probably would like to know what paralegal salaries are. The truth is there are a number of factors influencing salary scales for paralegals. Entry level salary commonly begins at $25,000 with the potential of climbing to $60,000 with experience and years on the job. Individual factors will influence how much a paralegal gets paid.

Speaking on an average basis, an average salary is $44,000. A bachelor’s degree is needed to become a paralegal, but if paralegal certification is attained this is an added bonus. Certification helps increase starting salary. Keep in mind that the need for a paralegal will be in demand as long as lawyers are needed.

The need for lawyers translates into a continuous demand for lawyer assistance. How much a paralegal earns depends on a number of factors. The demands of the market, education, and possible certification among others play a role in how much a paralegal gets paid.

For instance, market demand. A lawyer can benefit from good economic times, as well as bad economic times. Take for example a business man who is enjoying good financial times and wants to expand his business. A lawyer may be called in to create legally binding documents. On the other hand, if the economy has turned its back on this business man, a lawyer will be needed to file bankruptcy as well as other pertinent documents.

Established is the fact that lawyers are constantly in demand, and attorneys need their assistants. This may explain why paralegals enjoy a yearly increase on their salary packages. As mentioned above, education is also another key factor. Employers also differ in payment as well.

In addition to a college degree paralegals can go through two various certification processes. Companies or law firms who partake in the regulatory bodies that distribute these certifications, must abide by paying a higher salary for certified paralegals. Certification can also help speed up the yearly salary increase.

Experience is also another key in earning a higher paralegal salary. Newcomers into the profession usually begin in the range of $25,000 to $30,000 on a yearly basis. On the other hand, experienced paralegals with more than 20 years of experience are likely to earn well over $45,000.

Paralegal salaries will also depend on location. Bigger cities are prone to have more crime and need more legal services as opposed to smaller, rural areas. Pay will also depend on the hiring firm. Corporate law firm salaries will differ from small firms and other government agencies.
